We mourn Tim with great sadness on Tuesday, June 7th 2022 when he passed at age 63. His life reflected this dedication with life lived full and vibrant to its core.
Timothy Gross was born November 24th, 1958 to Mahlon and Arelene Gross in Bowdle SD and thrived during his formative years by participating actively in sports and arts, graduating with honours from Bowdle High School with achievements in football, basketball, track, and chorus and band – among many other pursuits. Tim continued his academic studies at Northern State University where he earned a BA of Science Degree in Psychology & Behavioral Science (1981) which provided the basis of his counselling practice as well as his later contribution to the Department of Corrections South Dakota (DOC).
What Contributions Has Tim Made Throughout His Professional Career?
Tim began his professional career counselling career at a residential group home for children in Aberdeen, SD in 1981. Inspired to make a positive difference for the youth he then served as project coordinator of Aberdeen’s Juvenile Diversion Program until 1987 when his path led him into service for the Department of Corrections where he served both parole officer duties as well as being promoted to Regional Supervisor for Parole Services covering Rapid City SD/Northern Hills region until retiring June 7, 2019. Tim left behind a legacy of dedication and service when he passed on this legacy upon retirement!
How Does Tim Express His Interest in Music and Outdoor Activities?
Tim was deeply committed to music throughout his life and excelled as an accomplished bass guitarist, spending years performing in bands with fellow musicians while forging lasting friendships amongst their ranks. Tim found great pleasure in both playing music and enjoying nature: an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast (regular at Sturgis Rally), camping trips and spending tranquil evenings relaxing on his deck were among his outdoor pursuits while the battle against pinecones and cotton became a yearly tradition that showcased both his sense of humour as well as devotion for home ownership among his fellow riders.
What Will Tim Leave Behind as His Legacy?
Tim Gross was predeceased by both of his parents Mahlon and Arelene Gross; yet left an incredible legacy behind him of love, service and passion in his community and public service – not forgetting being an incredible husband, father and friend himself! Tim’s memorial services on June 24, 2022, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel Spearfish served as a testament to this fact.
