About a month ago we had an untraditional game night at our house. We put away Candy Land, Go Fish and Cobra Paw and did Minute to Win It games. It was our funniest game night ever. There was something about watching each other doing silly physical things that had everyone laughing. It would be a great thing to do on a long, cold winter day.

I bought all of the necessary items at the Dollar Store to save a little bit of money. What we used is listed below. I spent $10 for everything. You will also need ribbon or string for one game. We had ribbon at home so no need to buy it.

  • marshmallows
  • straws
  • red cups
  • tissue boxes
  • cookies
  • balloons
  • ping pong balls

Game 1: Pick up the marshmallows with a straw.

Each player gets a plate, a straw andten marshmallows. Put the marshmallows next to the plate, put the straw in your mouth and hands behind your back. Using only your straw, pick up each marshmallow and move it onto the plate. This game was probably the most difficult. It took almost the full minute to get all 10 marshmallows onto the plate. We did two people at a time.

Game 2: Stack the Cups

Get our your red stacking cups. Each player gets one minute to build a pyramid with their cups and then take down the pyramid into one pile. Kids five and under get 10 cups-their pyramid is 4, 3, 2, 1. Anyone over the age of 5 gets 15 cups. Their pyramid is 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. We did two players at a time again for this one.

Game 3: Balloon Bounce
For this game you will need four balloons, two colors of each. So, we had two orange balloons and two blue balloons. Each player has to keep their two balloons in the air for one minute. This was a lot harder than it sounds. Make sure that you have plenty of space for this one because people run into each other chasing the balloons.

Game 4: Cookie Face
This was my husband's favorite game. Each person put a cookie on their forehead and using only your face (hands behind your back) you try and move the cookie down to your mouth. We laughed so much during this that our cookies probably fell to the ground 20 times. Watching your spouse try and move a cookie down their face is pretty funny.

Game 5: Junk In Your Trunk
This was my absolute favorite game. First, take all of the tissues out of the boxes. I didn't want to waste them so I put in our bathroom in other containers. Then cut two slits in the back of the box, about 1.5 inches wide and about four inches apart. Pull a piece of ribbon or yarn through the slits. Fill the box with 8 ping pong balls, tie the box on the waist of a competitor so that the box is on their butt. Then give them one minute to wiggle, jump, jiggle out the ping pong balls. They can't use their hands to get the balls out and they can't sit or lay down. You can tell by the picture how fast the kids were jumping and moving to try and win in one minute. This game had us all roaring. Our kids were way better at it than we were.

In the end, we spent about 45 minutes playing the games over and over again before moving onto the next one. We had a lot of fun and the kids played the games with their friends the next day. Two thumbs up from us!
